IRB meeting schedule

The NMDP Institutional Review Board (IRB) staff conducts a pre-review of all research studies for accuracy, completeness, and review type determination. Submissions are ready for review once all clarifications are addressed.

Types of IRB Review

  1. Administrative Review
    • Certain administrative changes may be approved by NMDP IRB professional staff (reference SOP-00012 for examples).
  2. Exempt Review
    • Research involving human subjects that falls into one of the research categories listed in 45 CFR 46.104(d)(1)-(8) is exempt from regulation. Exempt determinations are made by the IRB Chair or IRB Administrator.
  3. Expedited Review: To qualify, research activity must:
    • Involve no more than minimal risk and be found on the list of expedited review categories, or
    • Be a minor change in previously approved research during the period for which approval is authorized.
      • Note: Expedited review does not mean faster approval. It follows specific regulations, where the IRB Chair or a designated IRB member reviews the research and either makes a determination or refers it to the Full Board.
  4. Limited Review:
    • A type of review process required for exempt categories under 45 CFR 46.104 (d)2(iii), (d)3(i)(c), and (d)7 and 8.
  5. Full Board Review
    • Research must be reviewed at the convened IRB meeting.

2026 IRB Meeting Dates & Submission Deadlines for Full Board Review

The NMDP IRB meets on a regular basis to review study submissions. As a general rule, the IRB meeting is held on the third Thursday of each month, and the deadline for submitting materials is three Thursdays prior to the meeting.

Note: IRB meeting dates are subject to change. Submissions received after the materials deadline that do not qualify for expedited review are not guaranteed to be reviewed at the next IRB meeting.

  • October 15 (materials deadline: September 24, 2026)
