High-Resolution Typing Assistance for patients and family members

Helping patients overcome barriers to HLA typing

Request our High-Resolution Typing Assistance when insurance barriers prevent your patient from accessing timely HLA typing for themselves or first-degree family members. We complete HLA typing via buccal swabs on your behalf and provide the typing results to your center free of charge.

Use our High-Resolution Typing Assistance when:

  • Your patient does not have insurance
  • Insurance authorization is delayed
  • Your patient's insurance does not cover high-resolution HLA typing for the patient and/or a family member
  • You need HLA typing for more than one family member and it is not covered by insurance

How High-Resolution Typing Assistance works

After you request High-Resolution Typing Assistance, NMDPSM sends buccal swab kits to the patient and/or family members. After swabbing, the patient and/or family members return the kits to Labcorp for testing. Your transplant center receives the results within about five business days.

Typing done via our High-Resolution Typing Assistance program must be completed at Labcorp. Blood sample typing is not available.

High-Resolution Typing Assistance is only available for patients being treated at a transplant center. Community hematology/oncology practices have access to no-cost patient and family member HLA typing through NMDP HLA Today.

Family members you can request for typing

Family members must be first-degree relatives. First-degree relatives include siblings, half siblings, parents and children. The family members do not need to live in the United States. You can request typing for family members who live abroad.
