Understanding the Donor Sort change in NMDP MatchSource®
Overview
NMDPSM updated the NMDP HaplogicSM algorithm based on research from CIBMTR® (Center for International Blood and Marrow Transplant Research®) that shows minimal impact on patient outcomes when using donors who are 18–30 years old. CIBMTR is a research collaboration between the Medical College of Wisconsin® and NMDP.
The Donor Sort Order on the NMDP MatchSource Search Results page reflects the research-based change. The change provides more donor search flexibility for transplant centers.
NMDP offers two education opportunities to help transplant centers quickly get up to speed on the update:
- Watch a brief video outlining the science behind the change and what you'll see in MatchSource.
- Watch a Q&A session recording with answers to questions submitted by transplant centers. If you have already registered, you can access the recording here.
- Download the Donor Sort Order PDF
Learning objectives
After watching the videos, you'll walk away with a better understanding of:
- The research that guided the HapLogic change
- The positive impact the change can have on your donor searches
